I agree with the statement “Instagram has altered our perception of beauty” because this social media platform is constantly changing trends, popular song, fashion trends etc. so who’s to say that it hasn’t changed our idea of beauty along with everything else. The beauty qualities/ people that Instagram portrays as “beautiful” are/have beauty standards that are unattainable naturally by humans. It has also created insecurity in many young men and women that do not meet these impossible beauty standards. For example Kylie Jenner has one of the most unrealistic bodies in the spotlight of social media even so people still portray her as the “ideal body type”. With her thin waist and hourglass like shape figure it is almost impossible that Jenner hasn’t gone through medical procedures to alter her looks. She also denies having any procedures besides her temporary lip fillers which makes it unhealthy for fans and spectators to think that this body is possible without medical procedures.

Furthermore we also forget that most instagram pictures are edited, can have special lighting, certain pleasing angles, and apps that get rid of blemishes, acne, and get rid of any harsh lines etc. Apps like Facetune can alter a person's looks drastically. As shown in the photo the before and after picture almost seem like two different people. Society forgets that the person on the left can't exist.

Beauty shouldn't be defy by what the media tells us. Everyone is beautiful in there own way. Social media's perceptions of beauty is destroying and damaging our teen generation. Causing damage in more ways then one.
